Making the Most of S.E.A.L.
This booklet poses the question, ‘Is SEAL being lost in the Theme Park?’
“R timers” welcomed the arrival of the SEAL Primary National Strategy with
great enthusiasm. Its focus on social and emotional aspects of learning is so much in line blends beautifully with the R time philosophy. Children’s
social development and emotional well-being are vitally important if we are to enable children to achieve their maximum potential. SEAL is a programme
which aims to develop the underpinning skills that help promote self esteem, positive behaviour and effective learning, i.e.
Managing feelings; Motivation; Empathy; Self awareness; Social skills.
The SEAL support materials are organised into seven themes:
- New beginnings
- Getting on and falling out
- Say no to bullying
- Going for goals
- Good to be me
- Relationships
- Changes
After meeting with many teachers there arose a concern that the seven themes can become more prominent than the five SEAL’s.
This led to the production of this leaflet, in an attempt to ensure that children can gain maximum benefit from this very important initiative. The booklet also demonstrates how R time can help teachers to introduce the children in their care to the 5 SEAL skills through practising them during each R time session.
The booklet is very modestly priced.
